Description

Ok, so I suck at writing these types of things. This is my first custom rig, my buddy Nels assembled it for me (he does this for a living and I knew he'd do a better job than me ... LOL). It will be used for photo editing and graphic creation as well as daily use (interwebz, email, etc). I am not quite finished yet, I am still waiting to purchase a GPU and a CPU cooler, I am buying my buddies MSI GTX 660 2gb Twin Frozr for the cheap and am thinking of going with Hyper 212 EVO or Phanteks PH-TC12DX_BK for a cooler

I will update this post when I purchase the new parts

UPDATE 7/1/14 - Recently I have purchased 2 green LED Cooler Master fans for the grill, and a 212 EVO CPU cooler

You have the best cable management I've seen so far in a 230t case. I'm definitely taking notes, well done.

Not bad parts man, is this your first system? You considering any other GPUs besides the 660? Good, clear pictures. +1 all day.

This is my first custom build, Ive been a long time laptop fan due to portability but I needed something that could easily run Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

Im not really considering anything else GPU wise, I'm getting the GPU for $100 or less and I do not do much gaming at all (currently I have no games on the computer, but would like to get Diablo 3 and possibly Titanfall)

Well enjoy the system man, plenty of good times ahead with it.

Titanfall would be great on this build, my friend has a 660 and it runs Titanfall on High as well as mine too.

And I know that 4670k will handle ANYTHING you throw at it, it is a monster of a CPU! Also, the cooler that I recommend for you if you're looking on the cheaper end I would rather go with the Hyper 212 EVO, it's great for overclocking and the 4670k doesn't have a lot of heat issues like Ivy and Sandy Bridge did. Good luck on this build, I would love to check it out once it's finished!

I really like the Hyper 212, the only reason I'm looking at the Phanteks is because the radiator is black

maybe do a hyper 212 and then throw two Sp120 fans as a top exhaust?

Good cable management. Like the green led as well. Idk how much you care about the color mix but maybe down the road pick up some green led fans for the front.

Green fans will be purchased for sure, this came with the reds so changing them isn't a priority at the moment

Where did you buy your parts for so cheap? I've never seen the 4670K, ASRock Z87 Extreme6, Corsair Graphite Series 230T and Corsair CX600M that low in price. Unless you are calculating mail-in-rebates too.

CPU and MBoard are from micro center, case and psu are from new egg, each were on sale and had $10 instant rebates AND $20 MIR.

Did you at least watch him build it? I think that would have been beneficial for you so that you won't have to rely on him the next time.

I didn't get the chance, he was busy when I was in his town, he lives 900 miles away. I visited him to get everything at microcenter, but he had to go on base for the weekend

That's understandable. But hey, next time you are upgrading your build, get him on Skype for some advice.

I could've built the PC myself, its just that I knew it would look better (think cable management) if he did it

Great build man, clean and solid.

The 660 may struggle a bit with Titanfall but i could be wrong, probably would just have to lower some settings.

Does a SSHD Hybrid AND a SSD give any extra performance benefit? I'm wondering if adding a SSD to my sons PC will do much different than just SSHD http://pcpartpicker.com/b/OsV

  • 1 point

I honestly can't say. My last PC just had an HDD. My OS and a few programs are on the SSD and all of my pics, bids, etc are on the SSHD

The SSHD will improve loading times and access times of programs and files used most often off the media. Would be more noticeable if it was a standalone drive, but the benefit is still there.

With what you put into this id bump up the GPU

There's no need, this isn't a gaming PC. So $100 660 > $300 770
