GPU Core Clock Rate

I use this for gaming. The power supply was pulled out of my old computer, and the two ssds are in raid 0. My old build was running an amd 1055t, and I liked it, so I went with amd again. The fx-8320e runs cool and I overclock it to 4.4ghz during games. This case doesn't do a very good job at blocking out noise, but it still runs fairly quiet under load. Any tips on improving my build are welcome!

UPDATE: I found a good refurbished Corsair PSU on sale. The black cables made it tempting, so I bought one and replaced the old Lepa unit. I also raised my monitor a couple inches with a small shelf I built. This helps bring my speakers to ear level and allows me to properly sit up straight. The two OCZ solid state drives have been spray painted matte black to be more subtle. They blend in perfectly with my setup.

The new speakers are Micca PB42x. The line out from my motherboard is split in two so that I can also use my Velodyne DPS-12. The subwoofer is far too big to fit anywhere near my desk, so I have it in the corner of my room. (subwoofer position doesn't really matter anyways)

Part Reviews

Runs cool and on low voltage. Easy to overclock.

CPU Cooler

The corsair link software is too glitchy and required registry edit to display the fans. However, it does a great job keeping the cpu cool.

Video Card

fans don't spin unless heavy load, however, high res gaming really takes a hit on performance.

Power Supply

The fan is louder than I would like, but it has run solid for years now.

Love the cable management, extremely clean. I will hammer you on the power supply only becasue I've never seen that brand before. Also a good board choice.

LEPA or Lepatek has been around in europe for quite a while, they are a great brand just not known here in the americas.

jay227ify 2 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

WOW really?! I have a lepa lpc 306 mid tower case and I live in NY.

goodra submitter 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

I believe the psu itself is made by Enermax

very nice build, i would consider an internal fan controller like the corsair mini link to help with your fan noise issue, you can probably drop the speeds down a bit while maintaining the same temp range and cut a lot of noise out. also, consider a later upgrade to a gold or platinum certified power supply, it will run a bit quieter most of the time as they are built better and more efficient. My gold certified one doesnt turn on its fan most of the time cause it doesn't have enough heat to warrant it.

goodra submitter 1 Build 2 points 47 months ago

I use corsair link to control my cooler fans, and my case fans only spin at 700 rpm. I only have noise issues because my computer is placed right next to my head. My next upgrade will hopefully be a platinum rated PSU

cilvre 6 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

ah nice, i didnt see it in your item list. I have my rig up next to me as well but the noise isnt bad, and most of my fans are at about 1000rpm, loudest one is my vga card but its old.

Beautiful cable management. Awesome Build +1

Hazarded 2 points 47 months ago

mmmmm das a sexy keyboard

BurgerBum 2 points 47 months ago

i have to agree! its nice indeed. :)

still one to build my own however. :/ everything, even that ducky-shine mini is too big. :c i need less then like... a 40% .... 37% xD woo

Hazarded 2 points 47 months ago

wait wtf a 37% really I wanna see the layout :D

Hazarded 1 point 47 months ago

D: WOOOOW that layout looks complicated to make but damn with right and left clicks too

the wiring and firmware for that sounds already complicated but it shouldn't be too hard

BurgerBum 1 point 47 months ago

left and right click cause i really want to find one of the little nubs form old laptops to navigate the cursour with. x'D after moving from my old laptop to this one i cringed at the touch pad, and using a mouse for anything but gaming still feels odd. xD _^

usually the software side of making your own isnt all that difficult, just get a teensy and use some software to set thing up. (from what i know) i would still need another keyboard to set it up though.

ideally i'd have a model M off to the side on a separate panel of the desk. because if something went wrong id have my other fav keyboard at the ready. :D

jopo14 2 points 47 months ago

Nice build, love the case!

Cibex 1 point 47 months ago

VERY nice AMD rig! Makes me wanna cry almost! Although I'll say I think you got hoodwinked on those SSD's. I purchased 2 of the very same ones back in FEB. and got them for 59.99 each. Typically they go for 79.99 +1

cilvre 6 Builds 3 points 47 months ago

thats the price they are currently at on pcpartpicker, not necessarily what he paid.

Submitter, you have to mark your items as purchased and set their price if you want everyone to see what your rig ran you in costs.

goodra submitter 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

Sorry, I didn't know I could do that.. But I actually paid $90 for the SSDs :( The rest of the prices are pretty much right

kaito1410 3 Builds 1 point 47 months ago

Everything looks clean, love the color scheme. If only you could paint those ssds red, that would look even more amazing

rOjOdogg 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

Nice looking build with quality parts and brands. love the look of the case and your cable management is great. How many fps are you getting running games?

goodra submitter 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

Sadly, I only get about 40 fps on BF4 because I use a high resolution and 8x MSAA

dim23 1 point 47 months ago

Is the black on the black/red version of the s340 glossy black like the standard black s340 or is it matte black? :) great build, +1

goodra submitter 1 Build 2 points 47 months ago

It's a matte black with glossy red accents on the inside. Thanks!

Beautiful build and that 8320 is a good chip my friend and I are going to Microcenter next week so he can buy one. Where did you purchase your PCIe extensions from? That's going to be one of my next purchases.

goodra submitter 1 Build 2 points 46 months ago

Thank you! Do you mean the power supply cable extensions? I found them on amazon, the name of one of them is "Silverstone Tek Sleeved Extension Power Supply Cable with 1 x 6-Pin to PCI-E 6-Pin Connector (PP07-IDE6R)." The 8 pin extender model is PP07-PCIR.

convertedconsolegamer_92 2 Builds 1 point 46 months ago

Yes those are exactly what I was asking about. I'm ordering some red and carbon gray ones. How do you like the NZXT S340? I actually wanted another case but as soon as I started building in it I feel in love.

goodra submitter 1 Build 1 point 46 months ago

It looks very clean and fits everything fine. My only complaints would be the lack of any noise dampening... The back of the case looks very open, and I suspect that lets out a lot of noise from my fans. Overall, I love this thing! I would hope you like it as much as I do!

jaredr1999 1 point 44 months ago

What kind of temps were you getting out of the cpu? And was 4.4ghz the max?

goodra submitter 1 Build 1 point 44 months ago

4.4 was the highest i got, but i dont remember what the temps were. I don't run it overclocked normally because it puts out lots of heat into my room. The max temps were under 60 is all I remember sorry

jaredr1999 2 points 44 months ago

Thats fine, if its under 60 then thats all i need to know. Thanks for the help!

RobotGuy98 2 Builds 1 point 43 months ago

welshdiesel 1 Build 1 point 47 months ago

why in the world would you go with a 8350 over a 8320e?! especially went it overclocks with lower voltage than the 8350 and you have a higher chance of getting a batch PGS, which is the same batch the 9590 is made on. no, you wouldn't. no "educated" person would.

retarded choice in ram?! really? g-skill is one of the best, but who cares because most of them have lifetime warranties anyway.

also it might be "high-res" because he is coming from a 900p or lower monitor. your standards are not the world's standards.
