Description

This is my first overall build, originally bought a PC off a friend and upgraded everything in it with the exception of the CPU, Mobo & RAM, but that is definitely next on the list (need help deciding between i7-9700k & Ryzen 7 2700x). I know I could definitely use some work with cable management but overall it was a great overall experience!

Any feedback or suggestions please feel free to let me know!

Part Reviews

CPU

This CPU came with the build I originally got. Does a fantastic job with gaming, especially with the original GTX 970 that I had. This is definitely the next thing I need to upgrade and debating whether or not to get the i7-9700k or Ryzen 7 2700x.

CPU Cooler

This does a great job keeping my CPU cooled in any circumstance plus the RGB is a nice touch with the lighting node pro and HD120 fans that I have with it.

Memory

Gaming on my previous build was fine with 16GB and I still think it will be enough, but I do believe that I could use more RAM when I upgrade the cpu & mobo.

Video Card

Coming from a GTX 970 to this was a game changer for me. FPS are obviously a lot higher and the fan the GPU has itself keeps the temp lower than the 970. Debated getting the 2080 but I bought this off someone for $250 so I can't complain.

Case Fan

Debated getting the LL120 over the HD120 but I am happy with the HDs. Colors are very vibrant and look great inside the case.

What would you be using the 2700x or 9700k for?

I do game a lot, but I also am in school and do a lot of coding in java / a lot of tabs in google. Overall I heard the 9700k is better for everything except the amount of cores and threads that it has so that's why I'm undecided between the two.

My opinion you should get the i7.

In reality it depends. Do you need the Cpu now or can you wait a few weeks? Cause if you can wait a few weeks the 3800X will come out and it will be better then both 2700X 9700K and 9900K Cpu's making it top of the line. If you need a cpu urgently I would recommened the 2700X, and then put a bit more $ into a better SSD Like the Samsung Evo m.2 if you are seriously coding in Java alot. Although just my opinion.

Yeah I can definitely wait it isn’t urgent, I wasn’t aware that the 3800X was coming out soon. I do plan on investing in an m.2 when I get a new CPU/Mobo though that will be one of my first investments after getting DDR4 RAM of course.

I would get an RGB graphics card. Green just doesn't fit.

Agreed, I got the 1080 for $300 so I can’t be too picky it was a deal I couldn’t pass up on.

Looks like a great build! If I bought the parts for this PC, do you think it could get around 120 fps on normal/medium settings for games like Rainbow Six Siege, GTA 5, Resident Evil etc?

Absolutely, although I haven’t played GTA V or Rainbow Six, in Resident Evil I play on max settings and get around 120 FPS never mind on medium. Also depends on what kind of monitor you’re playing on and the refresh rate of that.
