Description

New rig/setup update, I swapped out my quad Poseidon 1080 Ti setup for some 2080 Ti SLI.

So far I have overclocked both of the cards to 2125mhz and 13250mhz on the memory. The performance has been great for single card applications however there still need to be some updates to improve the NVLink scaling. The cards run about 45c at load, I am very impressed by the new EK blocks.

I am running three EL radiators, two 360s one PE one XE and one 480 PE. For the loop I use a custom Bitspower dual D5 pump block with EK petg tubing and Bitspower rotary fittings. The 7980XE is delided and overclocked to 4.6ghz at 1.22v and the temps stay under 80c at load. The Trident Z is running at 3500mhz and the VRMs are cooled by the monoblock so they stay under 100c.

Yeah I like ROG lol

Great workstation. Will probably game like a champ, some cores would need to be disabled of course...

  • 1 point

There is no noticable difference by disabling a few cores to squeeze out an extra 100mhz when its already at 4.6 on all cores.

  • 1 point

Not clock speed the processor you have is very fast on all cores. There are a few games out there that crash or wont load when the core count is too high.

  • 1 point

I have never heard or encountered that issue before are you sure it wasn’t something else causong the problem?

  • 1 point

Maybe it could have been some other error, I just recollect a few games crashing on my i9-7960x where with my other i7-7700K build they ran okay. It could have been the GPU, the i7 build uses a GTX 1080 while the i9 build is using a non gaming card (Titan V). I just assumed it may have been core count since I recollect a post on Toms Hardware reporting a game issue with the Threadripper. I did not investigate further since my i9 build I rarely play games on it.

Your next upgrade should be the Xeon W- 3175X and the ROG dominus extreme

This is really cool, but how do you justify spending that much money on a computer and its accessories? I'm not trying to criticize, it just interests me.

How do you change the man o war headphone RGB?

Really like your work. I've just been though all 5 versions of Bloodworks. I currently have a Poseidon card and i'm considering moving to the 2080ti. How happy are you with the change to an FE card? i do love the Poseidon card but just fancy something new.

I kinda prefer the founders card atm. It's a lower profile card so it allows for more airflow it has better video outputs than the Asus cards and it overclocks just as good on water with lower temps as the founders cards are all binned.

On a side note, I noticed you are using all Aura parts, I was wondering how that's been working for you. Recently all my computers with Asus Aura software spontaneously stopped working with the Aura application I can no longer control the RGB and Asus support couldn't help me resolve it they only said reinstall Windows.

Thanks for the info. I keep looking at the 2080 TI strix, but i just might give the FE card a go. struggling to justify the extra 300 - 400 for the asus card.

I haven't had any issue with mine. I did update BIO's the other day and i reset everything. Had to redo my OC and all my BIO's settings.

How you finding the Pravum Case?

  • 1 point

Its a great looking case, however its not very practical it has virtually zero features that you would expect from a modern case there is no noise cancellation, cable management, hard drive mounting points, fan controller, dust filter or even pcie slots for that matter it's just a hunk of acrylic.

  • 1 point

So probably not worth the price then. What case have you got your eye on next then?

Another question. Did you notice much difference fitting the posideon with an water block over the standard one?

Not looking to change my case anytime soon, but if I was getting a new one I would go for the Phanteks elite
