Description

So I built this as an over the top steam machine, but I told the wife it's for work:) I'm big on comics so I decided to decorate the case a bit. I did a lot of things backwards and upside down but overall I'm happy with it. Thinking about overclocking but haven't bit that bullet yet.

The case is decorated using Avengers and Fantastic Four comic strips using Mod Podge and then covered with Liquitex varnish to keep it from yellowing later. It took much longer to complete than any other part of the build and I messed up a few times. In one of the pics you can see most of the comics on the front panel are upside down.

you might want to plug in that other 6 pin power connector

IKR? And what is that weird little 3 inch adapter looking ... thing??

I think it's a 6pin to 8pin adapter since that MSI card has 1 x 6 and 1 x 8 pin power... adapter is unnecessary though since the other 2 pins for that connector are just hanging there unused.

Meh, first time. Ive seen some people still use molex adpaters when their power supply had native power support for the GPU. Live & build & learn.

I think your talking about the Sata cable, the SSD isn't plugged in there. I wanted to run through the bios initially to make sure temp was steady before actually booting everything up with the hard drive.

I was talking about the what looks like 6pin 8 pin adpater thats about 3 inches long going into the GPU.

That was an adapter that came with the GPU. I put it on thinking it would be better, it was not. I removed it and just used what came with the PSU, fully modular just makes life easier.

It does. Kinda makes you wonder how we managed to do somethings in the past without breaking out coping saws and circle saws.

I really like your idea of Marvel comic theme! I must say, to me, I haven't seen that before. A+ for originality. Maybe you can start your own PC mod business for side panel graphics? Just a thought. :)

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. I wanted to do something like that using comics and newspaper clips, I have no idea how to market it though

Very nice side panel! Could you add a few more photos and maybe talk about how you did the modifications in your description? +1

Definitely going to agree with bengy22 and RhettRO55 on this one, you should most definitely plug in the second 6 pin PCI cable to that GPU. Additionally, it appears as though you have some sort of strange adapter for attached to the GPU, the EVGA PSU you got should have all of the adequate cables without requiring any adapters.

Other than that though, great build! The FX-8350 should do well with an R9-390 if you give it a beefy overclock, the Kraken should give you plenty of room to do that. Love the side panel, awesome looking build overall! +1

Lol. Actually I was struggling figuring out why the display wouldn't work and found that was the problem. It was an older pic but it's since been fixed. The PSU actually had the proper connectors so I ditched the adapter.

Reiterating what's already been said about the power plug, if you have open power sockets you should absolutely connect them. Love the comic panel though and I think I speak for everyone when I say more pics are always welcomed.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for work that made what you told your wife believable? ha

Great build, and I approve of the custom comic wrap +1

I'm a Soldier and I have to write up reports, and design little training programs. A lot of pdf stuff, but mostly it's just a fun toy.

I tried to turn the CPU cooler around because the upside down NZXT is killing me, but it seems to not want to cooperate.
