Description

So I originally put together my first build back around February. I had decided to wait an excruciatingly long 3 months for the FTW3 to drop. Now that it's here I have put it in and rearranged my AIO rad so that I can accommodate a few HDD's. I am looking at WD Blacks, but will probably go with blue because of pricing. I am also looking into getting at new router and modem to setup my home network in the near future and a nas further down the road. I have come to the realization that this is probably going to be a never ending build, with upgrades and add-ons, so any comments or recommendations are welcome. Here is a video of the wallpaper I originally wanted to use as well as some other animated options I have come across. The resolution of the movie clips is too low for my taste. I really like the background around 1:20 but the color doesn't match and I cant find a 3440x1440 version.

So what's the deal with the name?

Sorry, I posted that in the other build. I went with a Drive color scheme but stopped using that wallpaper since I cant find a good quality one for my ultrawide. The aluminum case and scorpion match the colors/style of his jacket

Ahhh...this makes a lot of sense. Was an interesting movie. Love seeing that it got it's own themed build. Very retro, 80's Miami feel to it. Scorpion is a perfect match too.

I found the scorpion at Walmart, of all places.

Will these led strips work with a s340 elite? Im about to purchase them for it.

I bought an adapter to go with the strips, you may or may not have to do the same I am really unsure.

Love your build :) Nice components. I'd not go with HDD's for upgrade as they will add noise and usualy block airflow - a NAS seem like a very good idea though :D

Thanks for the input, I do appreciate it. I feel like I am tempting fate by not having a backup drive right now so I just want to get something quick and relatively cheap until I can set up the NAS. I figure I could always drop these into the NAS when the time comes; or have something to put in the kid's computer when they inevitably want to build their own.

For backup I'd likely go with a 1TB external hdd which can be stored off the machine. if something like overcurrent is to kill your data you anyway don't want it inside the same pc that got fried in the first place :D Myself I use the cheapest dropbox-account for 1TB online backup - but an external drive will be a cheaper sollution. :)

Man I have had so much bad luck with externals. I know its just anecdotal, but I have had three fail, from three different companies.

I've recently gone with Seagate Expansion Portable. And I always stay away from the drives which use external power. Most important for them to survive is to avoid vibration of the drive, and to safe disconnect (even if life is too short to safely disconnect drives). :)

ALWAYS SAFELY DISCONNECT! Thanks for the input, it has been a while since I had used an external so maybe...

Also; very nice (30k?!?) living room!

Damn!!!! WOOOOOW this build is awesome!!!

all i would change is put the rad in the front for better cpu temps but DAMN this build looks good!

I originally had it up front, and I prefer it that way aesthetically, but I had to move it so that I could accommodate a few hdd's

but this radiator should fit there.... without removing this plate....

The radiator fits, but would sit in front of the hdd bays.

How do you get the stats thingy on your desktop? I really need one of those.

CAM is the software that I use, as it's needed to control the lights on the Kraken

  • 1 point

First off very nice build congrats man! My build is going to be very similar to yours and I was wondering if you have ran into any problems with Cam software causing conflicts with the Zrgb and aura sync?

  • 2 points

The latest version of CAM causes lag with most settings in Aura, except for the static setting. I initially had this set to flash and dash but the lag is ridiculous. I haven't checked with tech support since it first happened; at that point they told me to just go back to the previous version. IDK if that explains it well so here is a video.

Yeah man, I see what you are saying and its lame as hell. I was thinking about buying the x62 in the next couple days but the more I ask people how their experience is with CAM its always a different bug.

Has cam failed to recognize your x62 ever? Also did you install the G.skill beta software to control your ram RGB? I had heard installing that along with CAM and Aura have been causing people probs.

  • 2 points

Luckily I have not had any issues with it recognizing the x62. I never installed the G.skill beta because it hadn't been released when I received them and I was happy with the option Aura gave me. I don't have much issue with the incompatibility because I am fine with just the static lighting and I really like the look of CAMs software (not that I am well versed in other UIs), but if you are wanting to do more than that you'll just have to use the previous version for the time being.

Thanks for taking the time to give me some feedback I really appreciate it man. I am gonna go ahead and just get it and hope for the best. Hopefully they will fix this sometime soon but I have heard its been hit or miss since release.

Dude those pics are awesome! Custom computers are really an art holy **** i just love when you stick to a specific theme like this.

There is only 1 thing missing in your build : custom cables. Like cables extension for the 24pin, cpu and gpu cables at Ensourced with a patern similar to this : http://choosemypc.net/sleeving/?p=5924741ca33a3 and it would really be PERFECT :)

I will take some tonight. I have a few from the initial setup here. But I have since moved the radiator up top and put the gpu in. I will get some sleeved cables eventually as well as a few hdd's.
