Description

Its finally complete, I'm so stoked about this build. After months of heavy research and bargain shopping here we are. I have to say big up pcpartpicker this site was the most helpful part of the the entire process. Initially I was going back and forth on which processor I wanted to go with and what brand AMD or Intel. The focus was workstation/gaming cool and quiet. I first considered going with the AMD 8370E the price alone is convincing and giving the amount of cores and threads. But then I thought "workstation cool and quiet" so I started looking at intel the Xeon E3-1231 v3 to be exacted. The fact that its so similar to the i7 had me sold right up until I saw the price for the MSI z87 mpower max ac motherboard plummet, going from $229 to $97. A feature rich award winning mobo the purchase was a no brainer. So now I have an ideal motherboard for over clocking I might as well just go ahead and do the right thing set my sights on high clock speeds and getting the biggest bang for my buck. So to completely avoid any possible compatibility issue I went with the i7 4770k over the newer Haswel refresh i7 4790k. Now on to the case, the corsair air 540 it speeks for it self. I went to the local microcenter to get an up close and personal look at her and I swear she spoke to me. She said "thrust me with all of those lovely components you have on your saved parts list. Stuff every centimeter of that strix inside me". Yes I'm eluding to the Asus gtx 960 strix. I got it at microcenter for 25% off open box. Honestly I'm torn I can't decide what part of the process was more gratifying. Shopping for the parts and getting all the deals I got or assembling the build. Aside from the processor, the ram and ssd everything was marked down. Hey I'll finish logging the experience later right now i gotta go run some benchmarks.

I don't think you needed to use SURGICAL GLOVES to put parts into a computer. Just saying. Nice build though. +1

Maybe not, but think of it as a transplant operation ;)

+1 for that case. You have to get some crazy air flow with that case. It's a wide case, but it looks great and has to perform great. Also, great parts and especially prices on the parts. You really hit the mother load.

Why go with an i7 and then get a 960? I'm no expert but I assume that 960 is going to bottleneck you.
