Corgi-inspired low riding mITX build with the best parts I could buy. The corgi's name is Rada Shimmy :)

Build Notes from 2017: The general gist is, I tried using a SFX-L power supply AND the Corsair AIO, but the fit was so darn tight I had to abandoned those plans. The SFX-L modular power supply cables would press against the GTX980ti causing some flexing I was also not happy with. So instead, I went with a normal SFX supply and a Noctua HSF. Also I got the CPU delidded from Silicon Lottery. My plan isn't to overclock but to ensure temps are as far reduced as possible since the build will be tight.

I have been very happy with the build although temps are a little high. This has more to do I think with the lack of bottom case fans. I have ran this build now for almost 2 years with no issues. It is silent at idle, it can be heard but not annoying when at load. Just sounds like a gush of wind flowing through there, which doesn't matter because I got headphones on or the sound cranked up. The case sits at my feet and is raised off the floor thanks to a desktop holder built into my desk.

[UPDATE 04/03/2019] I upgraded the MSI GTX980 TI GPU to an EVGA RTX 2080. Although the power requirements dropped from 260W+ to 215W, the thermal ceiling for this new RTX GPU drops from 92C to 85C. At load I was hitting 85C and throttling, which is bad bad bad. So to compensate for this, I bought some Noctua fans, 1x92mm case exhaust and 1x120mm for GPU intake. OMG I can't believe I waited this long to do this. My CPU temps dropped from 88C to 74C and my GPU temps dropped from 85C to 75C. I am going to buy one more Noctua 120x25mm fan for the GPU intake and call it a day. Two intakes on the bottom, one intake on the side, and one exhausting out the back.

Part Reviews

Love the processor! It overclocks well and plays games great! I did delid mine so the temps are pretty good considering the limited airflow within my case. Unfortunately, this socket was abandoned so I missed out on having a CPU upgrade path in the future. Oh well.

CPU Cooler

Absolutely love this HSF combo. Super quiet, fits within the NCASE perfectly, and installs onto the mobo quickly. No problems!

Yeah this NVMe drive is just glorious. Faster than you ever need it to be. I love watching games download and unpack on my fiber connection.

Optical Drive

Well when i built this computer the drive didn't work, never worked, and went obsolete shortly after buying. So I couldn't get a replacement with equivalent functionality. UPDATE As of 2019, NCASE themselves no longer sells the case cover with the slot cutout. So now we are going to be forced to use external drives for media. Not a huge issue but something to know.

1 star because the drive failed to work and silverstone did not have any replacements in stock. They did give me a replacement but it was a tray. So I have to take off the top cover any time I need to insert media.

Case Fan

$30 for a fan is expensive. But I have 0 regrets. This fan is pretty silent when i want it to be. At speed, it is whoosh sound with 0 whine. It comes with a ton of accessories that I found helpful.

You've inspired me to include some photos of my dog when I build in my Ncase.

Your temps seem a tad high... Anything you're planning to do to improve them or are you comfortable with them?

Yeah they were high. I reapplied thermal paste and that dropped them down to around 70-75C playing overwatch for a couple hours.

I am not worried about it anymore at this point, but I am going to buy 2x120mm fans for the bottom of the case to bring in some cool air from the bottom.

Sorry for the late reply!

So yeah, 20 months later I decided to update this build with intake fans for the GPU and exhaust fan out the rear. I did this because playing Anthem I would hit GPU thermal limits. Likewise the CPU temps ballooned to 88C. Adding these two fans made a dramatic difference on temps. I will be adding one more to the bottom next week and I will be done. I absolutely love this case. Just wish they made affordable 8TB SSDs so I can get rid of the mechanical drive noise when it is processing my PLEX library.

Any problems with the Blu-ray drive? I was thinking of getting one.

Yeah massive problems. 1 they don't make them anymore. And 2 - it never worked in my system.

Sucks right! now i don't have a slot loader :(. So i have to take off the top of my case every time i load optical media.
