Description

This is my current shrine, it has become what it is today from upgrades here and there. Started as a pre-built from Walmart in 2008.

Do you have 2 mice? Forget the AMD vs Intel talk. I am curious what you are doing with the 2 mice?

I hear they make dual wielding in Borderlands a breeze.

I play FPS and MMOs so I use my Rival for FPS and G600 for MMOs

Is one of your RAM sticks not locked in?

  • 2 points

I had to send one out for RMA in this pic so I had 3 in the slots at the time. I am back to all 4 right now.

From what I can see the 4th stick is not even there lol.

5.0GHz. My hat goes off to you. You did AMD right! Tons of cooling and great GPU. Excellent build. More pics and description.

Wow this is pretty nice :D

What I would have done differently:

8GB of memory at 1600MHz or higher

Larger SSD (120-250GB)

A single 1TB HDD (unless those are from previous builds or in a RAID config)

Fully modular gold PSU (this one is my personal preference really)

Maybe an i5 or i7? Considering that you weren't held back by a small budget.

I agree completely with what you said and there's a reason I didn't.

1) I had 8GB of the same RAM and one day it went on sale for $40 so I bought it to fill the extra RAM slots cause I have OCD about empty RAM slots.

2) I purchased this SSD a when they were fairly new so it was quite expensive for 64GB.

3) I have the AIR 540 and it has 2 hot swap bays for drives so I got 2 to match the slots.

4) Honestly, I don't really care for fully modular because the cords that come with a semi modular are ones I use anyway.

5) AMD goes back to my original build and like I said I upgrade parts at a time and an Intel swap for this is in the very near future. (X99 & DDR4)

The FX will be fine for handling games since games are GPU intensive. i think this build is pretty decent. though i would have changed some things, but hey, it works.

I know but the newer Devils Canyon i5 and i7 have better performance per core and over time save money due to the power consumption.

Have you heard of Logans STFU Formula?

Oh sorry for complementing someone's build then telling them what I would have done better and why! A$$hole.

Oh. I apologize. I didn't realize that I sounded condescending.

True but i think that having to pay any more for it wouldnt be worth it... though he could have gotten the same Mobo i have (asrock Z97X fatal1ty) @ $114 and then had enough for an i5...

This is true but like I said the Devils Canyon processors have slightly better performance per core, due to the improved thermal interface materials used they also run cooler.

agreed. they OC nicely too

NOPE! You save nothing. Absolutely nothing. It would take 10 years to make your money back, so go for fx on a budget.

Nice build. The only question I have is - what part was from the original Walmart store-bought?

Nothing is left from it, just stating that it has evolved from that with little upgrades here and there.

Epic build, could you recmmend that motherboard for overclocking with the 8350? Planning on buying that same combo from Microcenter. Thanks a lot for the build, but really, MOAR FOTO!

Sorry, I just logged on here on my laptop. I have my build all apart right now. You can follow my IG if you want, I post my build on there a lot (@Josh_Flynn_). I have reached 5GHz with it so I love it.

Very nice looking build. I can say with certainty and from many attempts that two 8gb sticks of 2133 ram will give you the best gaming performance. Check my builds. You have to over come that open slot OCD. I have it too. :)

I would've gotten an MSI 970 and an i5 instead of 16GB of ram. Still a nice build.

Who would he downgrade his GPU to get a better CPU? I don't thing the AMD FX-8350 bottlenecks the gtx 980 in any way...

  • 2 points

oops I read it as 970, not 980, so disregard the comment about the GPU. That said, 16GB of rather slow memory was a weird choice.

  • 2 points

Ah ok! And I'm following your opinion in terms of the ram,...

He says the build started in 2007 so maybe 1066 was the norm.

Yeah, I would've liked to see a better description and better photo's...
