Description

First for a quick bio- I'm 16 years old from Chicago, I got into PC gaming about a year and half ago on an old laptop, I got a job at a restrauant when I was 15 years old to save up money for this rig. I got most of the parts around Christmas time, many as gifts, with the exception of my second monitor and keboard which I got in late febuary.

As far as uses go, I built this machine primarily for gaming, programming, and 3D modeling. This machine dominates all of those tasks easily, and I feel like I balanced the power on the machine fairly nicely. I gave the machine a fairly modest overclock, I was hesitant to push it to far because I didn't want crashes when I was working on something important, and I wanted to preserve the longevity of the hardware.

I chose the red and black color scheme because those are simply my favorite colors, and I even custom built RGB led lighting into the cabinet where the PC is. I set up my PC the way it is because of space limitations. My desk as a large hutch built onto it, so there is no room to place the PC on my desk, and because of shelves under my desk thee is nowhere to put the PC under as well. Because of that, I removed the shelfing on a bookcase / display case thing I had, drilled some cable management holes in the back, and then hooked it up there. I really like the look that this creates, making my PC a focal point in my bedroom so that if anyone walks in, there eyes are drawn to it so I can show off my work :D ,

The name I came up for this build is frankly pretty stupid.I though lighting cause its "lightning fast" and red because its, well, red. I cannot for the life of me think of a better name so if any of you would kindly suggest better names, that would be great.

Thanks in advance for all of your feedback!

Part Reviews

CPU

This processor does everything I need it to do extremely well. It was very easy to overclock, and I brought it up to a "stable" 4.69 OC. Thermals are great, even at 100% usage it never hits above 70 really.

CPU Cooler

Keeps my OCed 6700k cool at about 60-70 Deg C under load. Looks fantastic as well, in fact I picked out this liquid cooler largely for its looks. I wish it had software to control the lights and fan speed though. Otherwise, solid product.

Storage

Fantastic Drive. I get about 500mb read and write, which allows my OS to boot super fast.

lol thanks :) I really liked the default windows background, but obviously the blue didn't quite fit, so I googled around until I found a red variant.

Really loving the build. Congratz. I'm currently saving up for a build and might just copy this build (with minor adjustments) because it looks so epic.

Nice gaming rig . I admire your dedication at your age , working and saving up to create your dream , well done . Always curious to see what other people have on their desktop . What do you think of Killer Network Manager and GeForce Experience , would you recommend those . Ive just finished a new build and I'm still really cautious of what to install .

Thanks so much! I would definitely recommend GeForce Experience, It has a lot of features that i use a lot, like shadow play and game optimization. It also makes updating GPU drivers easier because you don't have to look around NVidia's website. I don't really use killer network manager much, but it is nice to have the ability to set prioritization on network traffic. It automatically prioritizes game traffic which was nice, and then I was able to manually set priorities on certain programs so that if i was downloading a game, playing another game, and watching something on Netflix at the same time i could choose what to throttle.

Love the dedication to the color-scheme. Turned out great.

Thanks so much, that was definitely one of my focuses; matching the color scheme in away so that there was just the right amount of red without overdoing it. I gotta give thanks to the case though, it really tied the color scheme together.

Shame on you, MSI! Why you not put a backplate on one of your top cards??

Great build! +1

Sorry MSI didn't take the time to put a backplate on their card.

IKR! The MSI 970 matched to perfectly with the rest of the build for me to not buy it, but it would look great with a backplate.

Very nice man.... I am also sixteen and saving up for a nice build to do over the summer. You can check it out if you like! :) http://pcpartpicker.com/p/pddsbv I wish I could spend 2000 dollars on a build but mine will be just over 1000 dollars and thats fine with me.

Thanks! Your build list looks great! I was only really able to spend so much on my build because i got the parts over time. I got the monitor and mouse at the beginning of last summer, I was able to get the OS for free, and I got a lot of the parts for Christmas, I think I got the GPU, mobo, and CPU all from relatives pooling together. Good luck on your build :)

thanks man! Yeah my keyboard and mouse literally just came in today! Got a new job and should be able to get all the parts by mid summer or so. You should give me your steam name so we can eventually play something together if you want. Its gonna be a while though haha

Huh. How well does it run when the CPU is melted? I guess you tried to run minesweeper and that's how you got those idle temps. Hope you can still afford a new CPU after that budget XD

It really doesn't get that hot, when gaming or under normal load its stays around 40-50. Even under 99% load from aida 64, temps were pretty much at about 60-70 which is definitely acceptable.

EDIT: i see now that i wrote 300C idle temps lol. Yep yep sounds bout right

I saw three different colors for your cooler. How did you come by the red? I'm building a machine and i'm trying to get a red liquid cooler. A reply will be most appreciated.

the cooler comes with three colored rings. It comes with blue, black, and red. You can change them easily. Good luck!
