Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit
Nice build, but what do you use it for?
Very well balanced and taught out build!
But you should show some pics of your desktop (in OS) we need to see what customizations you did to your Ubuntu :D -personally I love dodgy windows and workspace-corner- switching)
Nice choice of parts, but how's Ubuntu? I haven't used it since like Lucid Lynx (10.04).
Vanilla Ubuntu uses the new Unity interface. I'm not a fan, but it looks good. Seems like it would work well on a touch screen device. 12.04.2 is much more bug-free than the original 12.04 in my experience. Worth the upgrade if you are the LTS type.
Mmm... Kinda like how Windows 8 took that turn towards touch screens.
Sort of, except with ubuntu you can just install the classic interface and switch back. You don't need to drop $5 for start8. Open source FTW.
Personally, I use xubuntu anyway.
Hey, really nice build...
I'm wanting to build something similar so I just needed to ask, how's that CPU and motherboard running?
great build, but i would have gotten 8 gigabytes of ram and spent the extra money on the gpu (maybe a 7850/7870). Becides that great build
The 660 has a 1.6% performance increase over the 7870...
It's barely better, and it is on average 40 dollars more than the 660. It is not worth it at all
Its actually only $20 more, but if you want to recommend the 660 go ahead. I have no problem.
Are you kidding me.
No. The only thing better with the 7870is that is has a higher band wih ,that's it. Just because the 7870 is more that doesn't mean anything. The 650ti is more than the 7770 but the 7770 kills the 650ti...
Go look at recent gtx 660 vs amd hd 7870 reviews or vidoes.
That is all
I would have gotten 8gb of ram, saved the expensive ssd for a later upgrade and with the money saved I would buy a better GPU.
Very good.cable management even without any modularity.
I've seen a much better build for 1K$ around here with a 680
no it doesn't. The 3570k was not designed for gaming. But, it is a common choice among gamers because it delivers the perfect amount of performance for gaming. That still doesn't mean everyone with a 3570k is gaming. Maybe they didn't need the hyper threading for what they were doing, or maybe they didn't want to spend the extra money on the 3770k.
Because the first kit I purchased was 8GB, I didn't verify it was 2 DIMMs, so when a single stick arrived, I purchased a second identical one because the memory is dual channel. This may not have been necessary, but it's my first build.
