Description

EDIT : Thanks PPP for the feature! I'm so glad you guys like it!

Obvious reference to the Game of Thrones: it's entirely white and with 6 fans, quite cold.

I sold my old chap https://pcpartpicker.com/b/wtr6Mp and built this new frosty PC with part of the money. I'm using it for video/photo editing, computer music, desktop stuff and a little gaming.

I did a bit of 'modding' :

  • Added a passive-cooling GPU backplate. Mainly because the PCB of this card is black and I wanted to go with the scheme, but also I wanted a backplate that could help keeping the temps a bit lower. I tested in game before and after installing it : an average of 3°C less (on some tasks it was 56°C before and 53°C after)
  • I spray-painted the glass frame because it was originally black. Had a hard first time with this and it has a few minor scratches, maybe because I put too much paint... Overall, from afar it looks good. You can see the flaws when looking at it closer.
  • Also spray-painted the black PCI brackets.
  • I bought a white Posca pen because after a lot of times trying various things, I thought it would be the solution to paint the cable passes. Unfortunately, it gave me a good result right away but when it had dried and I tried to put it back in the case, everything crumbled. So I gave up and removed those 3 rubber pieces.

I think I got this PC a bit cheaper than expected : if you want to know more about it, go check the part list description https://pcpartpicker.com/user/hazyhope/saved/RTW2RB

Also the part list might seem crazy at the end with all the masking tape costs and stuff but the total is what the PC REALLY cost me. Otherwise,

  • Main components = 1110.93€
  • Software = 36.88€
  • Nice-to-haves (GPU backplate + rubber spacers) = 53.93€
  • Aesthetics = 106.80€

TOTAL = 1308.54€

bajinmuu 1 Build 4 points 5 months ago

This is beautiful. I respect the craftsmanship

ThePockets 1 Build 4 points 5 months ago

That looks awesome +1. Quick question, where did you get the GPU backplate? I've been looking into doing something similar for a themed build to keep with the colors. Hard to find GPUs the right color. Thanks!

xellent 3 points 5 months ago

You could do something on cable mod!

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

Yeah I've got it from Hybrid Cooling Modding, it's a french website but if you live in the USA they recently partnered with Newegg I believe! Now the backplate I ordered to him was a custom one (I asked him to paint it white and remove the HCM logo) so I don't think it would be possible through Newegg...

sz3343 4 points 5 months ago

Amazing build! I had to put on a hoodie to look at the pics :P

That is CLEAN. this has gotta be one of the bet all white builds i've seen so far. love it

SPEEDIE 3 points 5 months ago

Wow, That looks so clean. 10/10

fakeirish 3 points 5 months ago

This is why I want more components to be white, cause this build is amazing

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 3 points 5 months ago

Tell them louder!! Haha yeah finding the most white-themed parts was a huge task

fakeirish 2 points 5 months ago

Are some of the components RGB?I hear that RGB lighting reflected off white looks incredible, so would be cool to see that.

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

There's only the LED strip that can be other than white, but with this motherboard I can't have more than 7 colors... The most beautiful imo are white and blue (you can see on one of the last pictures the blue effect)

fakeirish 1 point 5 months ago

ah cool thx man

w4rchef 1 Build 3 points 5 months ago

So simple yet beautiful

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

Nice build, loved the theme

philphaser 12 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

Total build name win! Looks loud tho (the build not the name).

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 3 points 5 months ago

Haha Actually quite silent when you tweak the fan curves in the BIOS! Only when I'm in game the GPU is quite loud, but it's because I put a custom fan curve so I'm always under 60°C

philphaser 12 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

I had those LED fans and they were going on my nerves more than commercials. That should say something.

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

Really? I have 6 of them in my case and I can barely hear them...

Marenoc 4 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

Looking to paint frame of Tempered Glass panel as well. How did you go about this? TOP BUILD btw. 10/10.

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 3 points 5 months ago

Hey thanks!

Well I must say it was kind of a mess, mostly because it was my first time doing that much 'modding' for a PC :P

I removed the edges of the plastic film but kept the center protected by it, and used some masking tape ending at the limit within the frame. For the corners I tried to fold and cut the tape to make it fit the corner, but I shouldn't have. I spray-painted multiple layers after that (3 I think, maybe a bit too much). And when I removed the tapes when it had dried it was a bit messy and the limits were gross... Not to mention the corners! Might be the ****** masking tape I bought, or the paint, or my doubtful skills haha, but to minimize the mess I put masking tape the other way around, covering the painted parts, and used turpentine on a cloth and I rubbed all of the residues. It was a bit better after that but still when I watch it closer I can see small imperfections and traces... Hope it helps! :)

Kisalida 2 points 5 months ago

Looks like an aurora borealis in the north

lipan02 1 Build 2 points 5 months ago

Damn dude very cooling indeed! Gotta say though that backplate really made the build standout. Awesome job!

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Thanks! Yeah but mostly it was kind of ruining the theme without it, with the black PCB... :P

brent_the_rogue 2 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

Solid OS choice. Solid AV Choice.

Oh yeah the computer, yeah that's pretty good too. ;p

Almost as solid as a block of ice.

Lager11B 3 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

I clicked on this build and then I had to go get a blanket before continuing. The Dentyne Ice jingle came to mind...Nothings colder then iiiiiiiiiiiice, DENTYNE ICE!!!

PEBeacon 2 points 5 months ago

Wow, this is the nicest looking build I've ever seen, ending in a tie with another gorgeous build, but in terms of 1 color you absolutely destroyed everyone! The lights illuminating the white components is AMAZING!

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Haha thanks a lot for the kind words!

PEBeacon 1 point 5 months ago

With a build like this, you really deserve them!

Acidinmyfridge 2 points 5 months ago

FatBoyJD 6 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

I really wanted to do an all-white with red LED build, so seeing this is wonderful. +1

Nyderion 2 points 4 months ago

I got one question, what spray paint did you use to paint the glass frame ?

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 2 points 4 months ago

First spray was "Julien" brand but was faulty halfway through, so I finished with another one, no-name brand at the french Walmart equivalent. Both were paints for every surface (wood, metal, glass...) I painted the PCI brackets with it too

screaminseahawk 1 Build 2 points 13 days ago

I love how you painted the frame. I am planning on using the same case, and wanted to paint the frame light blue. I was just wondering if you painted the glass over the frame or were you able to remove the frame and paint it separately? Also, is the PSU Shroud removable or would I have to drill out the rivets to paint it?

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 2 points 13 days ago

Thanks ! No I painted over it, over the glass. There is no way you can remove the frame, in fact the black part of the frame is located under the glass itself. For the PSU shroud you can't remove it, at least not easily. You might have to do "heavy modding" to take it out :/

screaminseahawk 1 Build 1 point 12 days ago

Good to know. Thanks!

LightsOutLacy00 2 points 4 months ago

Hey man! I love your build! I am looking to do something similar! You mentioned having a video, I was wondering if you could toss that link! I'd love to see it!

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 2 points 4 months ago

Thanks dude! Yeah sure only I haven't edited it yet, when I have I will tell you and update the description with a link :)

Rw05 2 points 4 months ago

One piece of advice, Ryzen needs fast RAM, so this build would hugely benefit from some 3000 or 3200 MHz sticks

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 0 points 4 months ago

Thank you, but I had the opportunity to get quite fast sticks (2666 MHz) for a good price so I went for it. Future upgrades might be faster sticks indeed!

mbins 1 Build 2 points 3 months ago

Awesome build! Hats off to you!

Lemongirraffe 2 points 3 months ago

My favorite build I have seen

rdinero123 2 points 1 month ago

Im thinking of using the same case and fans! I must ask tho, where are the AF and SP fans specifically located?

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

I have 3 SPs in the front to pull more air since it's quite obstructed in the design of the case (though the air passes through with no problem, you just need indeed fans who suck (air)) and the back one and the 2 top ones are AFs :)

eliteajt 1 point 5 months ago

Love the white

customgtp 23 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Adrew24 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

That's one dope-looking white themed build. Great job.

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

It's the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 :)

Aquilian 2 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Very nice, clean build! Congrats +1

DominickP 1 point 5 months ago

+1. Could you tell me why you chose Windows 7? Nice build!

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Thanks! Because I have tried W10 and hated it...Until 2020 I prefer to stay on W7 and after that I'll see!

Slingshott 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

If you decide to switch, you can use your W7 key for the W10 installation

Dupiondrik1 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

Why Windows 7?

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Personal preference

Sayliex 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

Amazing look, dude! Nice work.

Also, how do you like that case? I'm considering getting the black version for my next build, and was wondering if it was worth it.

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

Thanks dude!

The main reasons I bought it :

  • The price, quite reasonable and on top of that with discounts I could get the TG version for the price of the acrylic one

  • The design, it's so minimalist I love it and in white imo it's just so beautiful! Just disappointed they haven't made a full white with white frame, PCI brackets and cable passes... Had to remove those ones cause I couldn't paint them!

  • The small size factor: I'm coming from a Corsair 650D and it's sooo small comparatively but has plenty of space in it !

  • The airflow doesn't seem cluttered, I have 3 SP fans in the front. All of my fan curves are set in the BIOS at the minimum when in idle and I can't hear them, and the temps are wonderful so I guess there's no problem ! And even when I'm gaming or working, the only fans I hear are the CPU and the GPU fans!

Downsides I found:

  • The glass panel is really not that practical to remove. When the tower is in vertical position you have to be careful when unscrewing (for 1 minute and a half...) or it will fall. Also there's some rubber spacers which aren't glued to the panel so be careful not to lose them!

  • The front panel is incredibly difficult to remove, I'm always afraid I'm gonna break it, but it doesn't haha

  • Small detail but the light in the front doesn't have the same color temperature as my led strip when it's white, but eh, not their fault...

  • Cable management is overall great when you don't have too many drives but be careful to the length of your PSU. I almost bought the 750W white version of Corsair but I've seen in a video showcasing it and this case that there was a really small space before the HDD cages... I chose the 550W which is shorter and I've also had trouble with the cable clutter beneath the PSU cover...

So I'd say yeah, when you have finished building it and don't plan to open it every single day, it's worth it haha

Phildilf 3 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Just curious, and I don't mean to be rude, but how much did you get for your old rig? This is gorgeous.

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 2 points 5 months ago

Hey no problem! I sold it 700€ three months ago with almost all the drives I had in it. And I sold separately the last 2TB drive for 35€ so 735€ in total.

Otaku1214 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

If you guys like this build check out mine. Btw amazing build +1

Rengi 1 point 5 months ago

Design is cool, and I think a GTX 1070/Ti would have been a better value for future proof(1440p/1080p gaming and faster editing) consider the 1K+ overall price tag here.

gruskada 1 point 5 months ago

Really nice build - so clean looking, and great attention to detail! The green backlight is a nice effect as well.

BTW, if you mix audio, you should have the tweeters pointed at each ear, and the speakers and your head should form an equilateral triangle. So most likely they should be moved out a bit, raised a little, and pointed inward (don't want to make assumptions about your height and head width :-)). It's amazing how this opens up the stereo field, and your mixes will greatly benefit.

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Thank you for the knowledge! But for all I know those are not really professional speakers haha

When I'm mixing I'm using a Sony MDR-7506. I also had two monitoring speakers but removed them since they took too much place on the desk, they heated up too much for everyday use and most of all my room is not soundproofed :/

gruskada 2 points 5 months ago

Those are really good headphones. Flat response, too, so your mixes aren't colored. Some people will say not to mix on headphones, but you'll also find plenty of people who say it's fine.

Don't know about the speakers - at least they have bass and treble knobs, so you can try and mitigate frequency coloring. And it's good to listen on multiple different speakers, anyway.

Good luck with the new PC!

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Yeah I've mixed my first song with them and they're gorgeous. The sound is pristine but does not lack bass, I love mixing videos with them too!

The speakers are actually really decent for the price I paid for them (40€) and yeah with the knobs I could choose 'my ideal' balance :)

Taplamp 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

Just beautiful. Great work here!

tragiktimes101 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

Is it dumb that my favorite part is that USB port on the front?

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Lmao I find it pretty convenient too, but know that it's not part of the case, it's a hub I bought separately and put on the front

NeonPinHead 3 Builds 1 point 5 months ago

Who organized the klan meeting in a corsair case? lul

WizardHoovy 1 point 4 months ago

does that light up your whole room

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

lmao actually I made the photos a bit brighter, but it produces a fair amount of light anyway lol

DwayneOF 3 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

Xcellent

Shpeeeeeeeeee 1 point 4 months ago

Love it! See if you can change the fan on the cpu cooler, or hell even go with and AIO. I’m really digging the colour scheme but I think you underspent on your GPU, a 1080 superclocked from EVGA would suit the build nicely and give your build some extra horsepower and longevity. Aesthetically you have absolutely nailed it and it is clear that some serious effort went into this bad boy. Thumbs up from me!

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

Thanks for your comment! Yeah for the CPU cooler in the future I might go for a Deepcool Captain 240EX White (it has a bit of black though lol), otherwise I'll stick with the default fan, it suits the theme and I'm very happy with the temps so there's no real reason to switch imo :) As for the GPU there was a budget constraint, I got my 1060 used (but in perfect condition)

ACEPCPARTPICKER 1 point 2 months ago

What did you get for thermals

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 2 points 2 months ago

30°C idle and 50-55°C in full charge

ACEPCPARTPICKER 1 point 2 months ago

Thx

wemons 1 point 4 months ago

Do the fans light up? I have a build myself and need some more fans

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

Yeah they do but they're not PWM so the brightness is proportional to whatever current you feed them with. I personally set all the fans at the bare minimum in the BIOS (at low temps, so most of the time) so it's not really bright, but my fans aren't noisy :)

wemons 1 point 4 months ago

Does the cpu cooler light up? The deepcool Gammax 400 non white does, so I was wondering if this one did the same.

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

Yes it does (you mean the fan, right?) and it's PWM so the 4 LEDs are quite bright!

wemons 1 point 4 months ago

Ok thanks. Is it rgb or is it only white LED?

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

This one's white only, I didn't need the extra-cost of RGB since the build is white-themed. But if I'm not mistaken I believe there's another version, more expensive, with RGB LEDs :)

D...g23 1 point 4 months ago

I was wondering how you synced your fans’ rgb with the cpu cooler etc, I am thinking of building also with the Deepcool gammaxx 400

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

I made the choice of not having RGB. It was cheaper for me and anyway I didn't want/need to be able to change colors. Each fans are white only, but there's the LED strip which potentially has 16 million colors, but is limited to 7 by my motherboard. And since everything is white, every color looks great! Look at the last few pictures when I put it in dark blue

But if you wanted to go RGB you might need some RGB hub like Corsair does to sync everything

D...g23 1 point 4 months ago

Thanks, the white does look really good so i like the idea of having a single rgb strip

Joe_Stan_15 1 point 3 months ago

Did you need an adapter for your led strip? P.s Very nice build

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

Yes I did : I used this https://pcpartpicker.com/product/mWtWGX/phanteks-rgb-led-4-pin-adapter-specified-for-phanteks-cases-with-rgb to plug it onto my motherboard. If you already have a Phanteks case you don"t need the adapter, the led strip can be plugged directly on a connector in the case (maybe not all of them are compatible though, you should check, if you're concerned)

ten8yp 5 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

Up from me...Beautiful build. LOVE the white aesthetic. But not a huge fan of the case. Needs cable grommets on the front and some better cable routing.

Sharkdude74 1 point 2 months ago

Beautiful

rdinero123 1 point 1 month ago

Hey there, I’ve got another question. What’s the cpu cooler like? I’m gonna use a 2700x and just wanted to see how the Deepcool performs

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

Hey, I'm really happy with the cooler, it's not expensive at all, all white so great in my case and most of all keeps everything refirgerated : 30-31°C idle and 50-52°C in charge. But I "only" have a Ryzen 1700, you might have higher temps with a 2700X imo

TARUNRMAROONR 1 point 1 month ago

Could you make this all red if you wanted to.

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

Yeah with the led strip and the MSI Gaming application I could (with this MB though there are only 7 colours and 3 modes available...)

Iccye 1 point 1 month ago

Why did you take out the rubber grommets in the case?

hazyhope submitter 2 Builds 1 point 1 month ago

"I bought a white Posca pen because after a lot of times trying various things, I thought it would be the solution to paint the cable passes. Unfortunately, it gave me a good result right away but when it had dried and I tried to put it back in the case, everything crumbled. So I gave up and removed those 3 rubber pieces."
