Description

I decided to build a new computer since its been a couple years since my last one. Added a little custom iron man theme to it since he is my favorite marvel character as well. I mainly use this computer for some engineering work but its mainly my gaming pc.

Part Reviews

CPU

Works perfectly fine for what I needed it to do. Upgraded from a 3770k so I can tell the difference in performance.

CPU Cooler

Keeps my cpu cool at high loads and is aesthetically pleasing.

Thermal Compound

First time trying it out, I normally use artic silver 5. I like it alot and will probably go with this from now on.

Motherboard

MB is great and really aesthetically pleasing. I also like the bios and how easy it is to adjust and play with.

Memory

Really enjoying the ram. Was able to get it to its advertised speeds through xmp profile and like the 5 individual lighting nodes which allows for awesome rgb combinations.

Storage

Upgraded from the 850 evo to this and was worth the price for upgrading.

Video Card

Awesome card, fairly quiet with a custom fan curve and handles all the games I play.

Case

Enjoyed this case a lot with its tempered glass side. Did have some issues with not having alot of room to stuff cables for cable management but I came from a full size tower so it was a small adjustment.

Power Supply

Previous pc had a 750W, bought a 850W to go with my new build but decided to splurge and go with a 1000W. Works great with the pc and does everything I need it to.

Monitor

Awesome monitor. You can get lucky and find it on sale every once in awhile for 450. This is my gaming monitor and i usually run all my games at 1440 144hz.

Looks awesome! I really like the GPU backplate and SSD cover, were they laser cut?

I believe they were. I got them made by jmmods, should check him out if you ever decide to get some done.

Impressive build. Those Iron Man themed back plates look superb.

Is the RGB on the Kraken not working?

Thank you I appreciate it. Its working , i just have it on breathing mode and the moment that i took the picture it happen to be at the point when there was no color lol.

Do you screw that gpu backplate in or does it just sit there?

Im pretty sure he has magnets on the bottom of the backplate so it sticks to the GPU

magnets, how do they work?

  • 1 point

They're glued to the bottom of the back plate and they're also in the gpu

it sits there but has magnets on it as well that helps keeps it in place.

So it'd still hold even if the gpu is upside down?

unfortunately no it won't the magnets aren't that strong.

I know the jmmods backplates require a controller, what are you using for a controller?

Thanks,

It comes with a small little controller that can control colors and modes.

Power supply a bit overkill for this build in my opinion but hey... a kickass build is a kickass build!

Yea I had a 850 and just decided to go up. Lol

nice. but if you are spending 4k on a computer, I would think you would want custom water cooling

I never tried custom water cooling. I was thinking about it but it's something I may consider later on.

Quick question, both pci slots on this board 16x or is one 16x and the other 8x? If not I'd move the card to the upper lane. I mean.... the difference between 16x and 8x is barely even a 1% difference at most, on most tests out there it shows to never be more than that so it really doesn't matter. Id hate to even give up 1% of performance... heck we usually overclock just to gain the smallest so why give up the smallest!

they are both 16x. But i know what you mean about trying to get the smallest percentages lol.

Great build! but what happened to the lights on the kraken, ram and motherboard? do they not work?

I have them on breathing and they just happen to be in the off in the transition.

Should’ve taken a picture while the RGB’s were on so this comment section doesn’t get bombarded with comments saying you’re RGB is broken

Looks super sexy!

How are your CPU temps under load? Did you OC? Is the CPU delidded?

Contemplating about doing a similar build but heard the airflow is not too great.

Thanks i appreciate it. I think when i was stress testing it, the temps were around 75C. While playing games like overwatch, destiny 2 beta I was hovering between the 60-70C. Im thinking of delidding it so i can get 5.0+ ghz later in the future.

where did you get the RGB cover of iron man head for the ssd?

Nice build, but I'd recommend some things: 1. The RAM is REALLY nice, but try using Corsair DOMINATOR Platinum. It's less expensive and has a better speed, even though it doesn't have RGB. 2. You have unnecessary items on your list like the 120GB SSD, Windows 10 Home, (because you can get it for free using certain ways) and the ASUS monitor. Don't use another SSD, just use a higher-capacity 960 PRO. There's a 1TB version on sale on at Amazon. Also, why use a WAY crappier ASUS monitor instead of a double-QHD setup? Anyway, good setup overall still, I like the use of RGB.

Thanks for the advice. A lot of these are still things I had from my old build.
