Description

I know the cable management could be better, I intend to fix it later this weekend. Thank you pcpartpicker!

I might copy this build because I for sure know it can run Minesweeper

Not only can it run minesweeper, it can run minesweeper at 60 FRAMES PER SECOND!

I'm calling bs on that. I have a 690 and i get about 15 fps in minesweeper.

You might have to turn off Ubersampling

Looks good! As a future upgrade, I highly recommend an SSD. After that, 8GB of RAM?

I think the first thing I will buy is a good aftermarket cooler, then i'll start thinking about RAM and maybe an SSD :)

I love that case so much, wish I'd got that instead of my Coolermaster CM690 II lite

It's a great case, amazing airflow and tons of room for cables in the back :)

I'm a little late, but how do you like the 7870? I'm split between that and the GTX 760.

Wait, was that case really $35? If so, nice! If not, I would've gone with a cheaper case and maybe 6GB RAM.

I got the case for $35 on a 1 day sale from Newegg :)

That is an incredible steal for a fantastic case!

Definitely! Man, I should've picked up one.

The board and processer are dual channel ram, not triple channel so 6gigs would not work

  • 3 points

Do you even hear what you are saying? The "Dual/Triple/Quad Channel" is just a small memory performance boost. Please don't spread lies that 6Gb of ram in 3 sticks will not work. That is total utter ********. You could have a 1Gb+2Gb+4Gb+8Gb if you felt like it.

Was that a piece of carpet you were building on? If so, I hope you discharged any static electricity build up often or used an antistatic wrist strap.

I think this build is really great! Make sure you try and upgrade that RAM with another pair 2x2GB sticks. Maybe you could get an SSD afrter that. How's this bad boy running so far?

  • 1 point

It's running great! I just fixed the cable management, and it looks a lot nicer. Got a 5.9 performance rating in windows, everything was above a 7.6 other than the hard drive.

Impressive price on that 500r. I thought I did good with 79.99. Overall a nice budget build.

Great build on that prize. Great PSU, case, video card, HDD, memory and CPU.

However, the motherboard is not that great ... I suggest not to overclock while having that!!! You better take a look at VRM fails - http://www.overclock.net/a/database-of-motherboard-vrm-failure-incidents As you see, MSI is dominating the list!

yeah, I was disappointed with the mobo. It only uses 6 of the 9 standoffs, so I had a mini crisis figuring out how to get it into the case. My next mobo purchase will not be an MSI board haha.

How's that motherboard doing? I just bought parts for a friend's build that looks very similar to this one. The only thing I was iffy about was the motherboard though.

The mobo is the part that I am least happy with. Installing it was frustrating as it only uses 6 of the 9 standoffs for standard ATX motherboards, and the CPU socket doesn't go higher than 125W, so overclocking isn't great, and it doesn't support AMD's 8 core CPU's under load. My next mobo purchase won't be MSI, for your build I'd recommend something from ASUS, Gigabyte, or even ASRock.

IMPORTANT Edit: When installing it into the case, plug in the 24-pin mobo power connector BEFORE dropping it into the case! Due to it only using 6 standoffs, there is a significant amount of torque applied to the board when you plug in the big mobo power connector, and I could see the board snapping fairly easily!

Ah, I'm regretting getting this board after all the reviews I've read. I was on a really tight budget for him though and as far as feature set this one seemed to be the best bang for buck.

Thanks for the tip though, if it really seems unsuitable I'll just return it.

How is the game performance on this system since I plan on using a 6300 and 7870

  • 1 point

It's amazing, I almost never see my fps drop below 40 in things like Bioshock Inifinite or Far Cry 3. Minecraft never drops below 250 fps haha.

I've got parts on the way for a build with same cpu/gpu, how do you like yours? Are there any games that it doesn't handle well?

Very cool wallpaper and a great budget build! Any chance I can get a link to the wallpaper?

I was thinking about the wallpaper on the way to Taco Bell when I realized it was the cover from Animals. (My favorite album by them. Dogs and Sheep are incredible.)

It sure is an incredible album, tied for my favorite with Wish You Were Here. Shine on you crazy diamond is maybe my all time favorite song.

Shine on you crazy diamond is incredible! I remember just laying back and chilling that song about once a week when I was younger.

Haha I am what you'd call younger I guess and it's my go-to song for "chilling" sessions. Echoes is also great.

Eh, you could have gone for more RAM and maybe a 990FX board, but otherwise it works.

He also could have gone dual Xeons and 4-way sli Titans, but does that mean he had the money?

I was on an extremely tight budget, this was the best I could do. I will be getting more RAM later.

GPU is completely silent, even at a near-full load, I love it!
