I always envied these $2000+ rigs that get posted; so this happened...
I'm upgrading from my second build I did back in 2012 (3570k/16GB RAM/AMD 7870). Over the years, I've added SSD's, hard drives, upgraded my GPU to a 970, and a VG248QE. I had no qualms about that build, it took everything I threw at it like a champion. However, as time passed and more technology became available to the consumer, I found myself loathing for more. DDR4 ram, M.2 drives, USB C, Ultrawide monitors, 1440p gaming, I wanted it all.
At first, it was all a dream. I wanted an ultrawide monitor and I wouldn't settle for 1080p ultrawide, but I knew I needed a proper GPU to push it, and I always joked about getting a Titan X. Then, it all started about a week ago. The 1080TI went on sale for sub $1000; so I jumped on that. The day after, I was browsing r/ultrawidemasterrace and spotted a post saying that the CF791 was on sale for $639.99 USD. I crunched the numbers; calculated conversion, duties, taxes, shipping, and the total I would be paying is still SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than what I would ever be able to get in Canada. Next, the Ryzen 1700 went on sale, and the price kept plummeting as each vendor joined the sale. So now, I'm looking at motherboards along with the other components I would need to complete this build, and everything I knew I wanted was on sale, everything below the historical low according to PCPartPicker.
It was a never ending barrage of sales. To my luck, all the lowest prices were available on Newegg (last time I ordered anything from Newegg was back in 2012), and on top of that, I was able to get 3.25% rebate from GreatCanadianRebates ($48)!!
