Description

I built this as an "I need an upgrade to replace my old computer" for my Father-in-law. He needed a snappier computer to work with pictures, the internet, and word processing and spreadsheeting. I think this machine is appropriate for those purposes and will serve him well into the future - its also a very upgrade-able machine. I think all the components are top-notch, and should last him a while. I booted the computer up with Windows 8.1, and it loads everything extremely fast - the OS boots from a cold start in less than 20 seconds. I especially like the slot-loading drive on the EVGA case! Very sleek, very high-class and quality case.

An i5 for basic usage? Could have gotten away with an i3. Still, good build!

Good thing it's unlocked too so pops can really let her rip...

There are a lot of very confusing choices on this one. A $1,200 spreadsheet and browser machine is a little... hm.

If his father is anything like mine, he probably built this machine to last 10+ years as that's how long it took my father to finally replace his old one.

No, there are just the 2 large (120 mm) exhaust fans on the top of the case.

I dont know what he does with pictures but for word and the interwebs you could've gone with the Pentium G3258 and been fine

what happened with the cooler master gemini cooler in the corners of the pictures?

I goofed and the heatsinks on the ram were too high, so the cooler master gemini wouldn't fit. I should have sent the ram sticks back and got some low profile ones, but oh well - I ended up putting the gemini in another build that needed a fan upgrade.
