Description

Build was originally finished in April, but only got around to posting it now. This is my first ever PC that I'm building, coming from a guy who played consoles, then moved to a gaming laptop (MSI GS70 Stealth Pro 2QE), and I'm just glad I'm finally able to game with a full rig.

Rig is mostly used for gaming, light media work, and office work.

I know people will see the 1060 6GB paired with an i7 8700K and ask "Why would you use such a high- end CPU with a midrange GPU?"

Well, to be honest, I had a gut feeling the new generation of Nvidia cards were coming out within 12 months and it just didn't seem like a good buy to get a 1080 Ti Hybrid, only for it to be outdated by 1 generation within those 12 months, so the 1060 is just a placeholder card that will be replaced by either a 1080 Ti or a 2080 Ti depending on the benchmarks that will come out in a few days.

The monitor will also be upgraded soon to a 1440p Ultrawide. I'm also planning on upgrading my speakers to a nicer set of passive speakers maybe in a year and a half.

Really nice pictures but what are those prices for your parts? An i7-8700k for $750? A GTX 1060 6GB for $450? I’m confused about those prices. Really nice cable management from the picture tho. You did good on building it!

Yea that cpu looks way to expensive af

Yeah I forgot to mention that's the price for the CPU, Case, and SSD all together cuz I got lazy dividing tax and delivery. I just clumped they're prices into one to make it easier and more accurate.

Oh let me explain. The CPU was bought together with the Case, and SSD and I got lazy trying to split tax and delivery fees together so I just clumped the total bill into one lol.

The GPU was bought during the height of the mining craze so I just bit the bullet and decided the price premium was for getting it now as compared to waiting a few months.

Nice monitor. Also what kinda desk do you have? I really need to get rid of mine.

Thanks! I got me an Ikea Malm desk with the pull-out side panel. The PC sits on an Alex Drawer, while everything else is on the desk.

I kinda regret the desk and wished I just got their wooden countertop and two Alex drawers.

How did you add parts as "OTHER"? I can't seem to add parts like the ones you have included. Nice build!

I think I just used the add custom part and added the link to the amazon page and it works out from there.

I know I'm a little late, but 8700k with a 1060? Isn't the GPU a little underpowered for the i7?

really nice build though I must say +1

As I've explained in the second half of the description,

"Well, to be honest, I had a gut feeling the new generation of Nvidia cards were coming out within 12 months and it just didn't seem like a good buy to get a 1080 Ti Hybrid, only for it to be outdated by 1 generation within those 12 months, so the 1060 is just a placeholder card that will be replaced by either a 1080 Ti or a 2080 Ti depending on the benchmarks that will come out in a few days. "

In this case, I'm sticking with the 1080 Ti.
